Free Daytime Shelter & Peer Community for Unhoused Adults — Milwaukee, WI | Repairers of the Breach

Repairers of the Breach is Milwaukee’s only daytime homeless shelter, open six days per week — providing life-saving, life-sustaining, and life-restoring services to adults experiencing homelessness in the Milwaukee area. Beyond daytime sanctuary, Repairers runs the Breach Café (free meals), an Employment Assistance Program, a Free Medical Clinic, and ongoing peer-grounded community among the adults experiencing homelessness who use the daytime shelter.

What to Expect

Repairers’ daytime shelter is open Monday through Saturday, providing a safe space, telephone/message service, secure mail service, private showers, continental breakfast, and warm meals through the Breach Café. The community that develops among regular guests is a meaningful peer support structure in itself — people experiencing or recently experiencing homelessness build relationships, exchange resources, and look out for one another. The Employment Assistance Program supports guests in finding and keeping work; the Free Medical Clinic addresses health needs. Repairers has been part of Milwaukee’s response to homelessness since 1989.

Who This Group Is For

Repairers of the Breach serves adults experiencing homelessness in Milwaukee — including people on the streets, in shelters, in cars, and in unstable housing situations. Services are free, with no referral required. The daytime model means guests can stay during hours when overnight shelters require people to leave — a critical gap-filling service.

Why Peer Support Works

For people experiencing homelessness in Milwaukee, the consistency of Repairers’ daytime shelter creates the kind of peer community that supports getting back to stability. Regular guests recognize each other, support each other, and build informal relationships that often outlast individual periods of homelessness. The combination of basic-needs services (meals, showers, mail) and peer community is foundational to people working their way out of homelessness.

How to Join

Repairers of the Breach services are free. Visit repairers.org to learn about programs, find the location and hours, or get involved as a volunteer or community supporter. The daytime shelter is open Monday-Saturday during posted hours.
