Sojourner Family Peace Center is Milwaukee’s comprehensive resource for domestic violence survivors and their families. As one of the largest family peace centers in the nation, Sojourner provides crisis intervention, shelter, legal advocacy, and therapeutic support groups under one roof. Their trauma-informed approach helps survivors heal while building the skills and confidence needed to create safe, independent futures.

Groups Offered

  • Adult Survivor Support Groups: Therapeutic groups for women and men who have experienced domestic violence, focusing on safety planning, trauma processing, and rebuilding self-worth
  • Children’s Healing Program: Age-appropriate therapeutic groups for children who have witnessed or experienced family violence
  • Parenting After Violence: Support for parents rebuilding healthy family dynamics after domestic abuse
  • Economic Empowerment Groups: Skill-building sessions covering financial literacy, job readiness, and housing stability

Who Can Join

Open to anyone in the Milwaukee area who has experienced domestic violence, intimate partner abuse, or family violence. Services are available regardless of gender, immigration status, or ability to pay. Children’s programs serve youth ages 3–17.

What to Expect

All services begin with a confidential intake process to assess needs and safety. Support groups are led by trained advocates and counselors in a trauma-informed environment. The Peace Center’s co-located model means legal help, counseling, children’s services, and community resources are all accessible in one visit. Safety and confidentiality are the top priorities.

All services are free and confidential. Sojourner maintains strict safety protocols to protect participant identities. Communications are privileged under Wisconsin’s domestic violence advocate confidentiality statute. Sojourner is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
