Steps to End Domestic Violence is Chittenden County’s comprehensive domestic violence organization, providing 24/7 crisis support, emergency shelter, counseling, legal advocacy, support groups, and prevention education. Based in Burlington, Steps has been serving survivors and their families for decades with trauma-informed, survivor-centered services delivered by professional advocates and licensed clinicians committed to ending domestic violence in Vermont.
What Groups Are Offered?
Steps offers support groups for adult survivors of domestic violence, children’s support groups for young witnesses of family violence, safety planning workshops, and psychoeducational groups on topics such as understanding the dynamics of abuse, healthy relationships, and building self-sufficiency. Groups are facilitated by trained advocates and licensed counselors. Individual advocacy and counseling complement the group programming.
Who Can Join?
Services are available to any person experiencing domestic violence, dating violence, or stalking in Chittenden County. You do not need to be a shelter resident to access support groups and counseling. Services are provided regardless of gender, age, sexual orientation, immigration status, or income. Children and teens impacted by family violence are also served through specialized programming.
Meeting Schedule & Location
Support groups meet on regular weekly schedules at Steps’ Burlington offices and at community partner locations. Specific group schedules and locations are shared during intake to protect participant safety. The 24/7 hotline is always available for immediate support.

What to Expect

All services at Steps to End Domestic Violence are provided free of charge. Strict confidentiality is maintained in accordance with Vermont state law and federal VAWA regulations. Shelter locations are confidential and all client information is protected.
