About This Group
Abused Women’s Aid in Crisis (AWAIC) is Anchorage’s primary domestic violence crisis center, providing 24-hour emergency shelter, crisis support, counseling, and advocacy for survivors of domestic violence. AWAIC offers individual and group support services that help survivors process trauma, develop safety plans, access legal resources, and rebuild their lives in a safe, empowering environment.
What to Expect
AWAIC provides comprehensive support including crisis intervention, individual counseling, support groups, legal advocacy, case management, and transitional housing. Support groups address topics like understanding the cycle of abuse, safety planning, building self-esteem, processing trauma, and developing healthy relationships. All services are trauma-informed and designed to meet survivors where they are. AWAIC’s 24-hour crisis line is always available for anyone experiencing domestic violence.
About AWAIC
AWAIC (Abused Women’s Aid in Crisis) has been serving Anchorage since 1976 and is the city’s only domestic violence shelter. With a capacity of 52, their emergency shelter provides a safe haven for women, men, and children fleeing domestic violence. AWAIC also operates Harmony House, a transitional housing program for families rebuilding after violence.
