Affirmations — Free LGBTQ+ Peer Support Groups — Detroit Metro, MI
Affirmations is Michigan’s largest LGBTQ+ community center, based in Ferndale and serving metro Detroit’s LGBTQ+ community with free peer-led support groups, social events, advocacy, and a steady welcoming space for queer and trans community members of all identities. Affirmations’ support and discussion groups are peer-led and group-driven, organized around the wide range of LGBTQ+ identities and experiences in the Detroit metro.
What to Expect
Affirmations hosts free peer-led support and discussion groups throughout the week — groups for transgender community members, nonbinary folks, bi+ folks, LGBTQ+ folks of color, LGBTQ+ elders, LGBTQ+ youth and young adults, queer parents, polyamorous community, and many more. The Center also runs social events, holiday gatherings (especially valuable for community members estranged from family), cultural programming, and ongoing community-building. Beyond peer groups, Affirmations offers basic-needs support, legal resource referrals, and a physical drop-in space where Detroit-area LGBTQ+ folks can find community and resources.

Affirmations welcomes LGBTQ+ community members across metro Detroit — Ferndale, Detroit proper, Royal Oak, Hazel Park, the broader Wayne County metro, and beyond. Members include LGBTQ+ folks of all ages, identities, and stages of their journeys. Specific groups serve identities and life experiences across the LGBTQ+ spectrum so members can find peer space that closely matches their own.
