Free Mental Health Peer Support — Wisconsin | MHA of Wisconsin

Mental Health America of Wisconsin (MHA WI) is the state’s leading mental health advocacy and peer support organization, headquartered in Milwaukee and serving Wisconsin residents with free peer support programs, the Veteran Peer Services program, advocacy, education, and community programming. MHA WI’s peer support work centers people with lived mental health experience as the providers of support to others — an evidence-based approach that has been at the core of MHA’s work for over a century.

What to Expect

MHA WI’s peer support offerings include free peer support groups across the state, the Veteran Peer Services program (peer support specifically for veterans by veterans), peer specialist training, prevention programming, and community education. The Wisconsin Peer Run Warmline at 414-777-4729 provides phone-based peer support for community members in distress. MHA WI also runs Mental Health First Aid trainings, advocates at the state level for mental health policy, and publishes resources for Wisconsin residents navigating local mental health systems.

Who This Group Is For

MHA WI serves Wisconsin residents seeking mental health peer support, education, and advocacy — across Milwaukee and the broader state. Members include adults navigating their own mental health, veterans (through Veteran Peer Services), family members supporting loved ones, community advocates, and people interested in becoming certified peer specialists. The state-wide reach means Wisconsinites outside the immediate Milwaukee area can also access MHA programs.

Why Peer Support Works

Mental Health America’s peer-grounded model has more than 100 years of history nationally, and MHA WI brings that institutional depth to Wisconsin. For Milwaukeeans, the combination of local peer support, the statewide warmline, veteran-specific programming, and peer specialist training creates multiple touchpoints for mental health work — from a single phone call to ongoing community engagement to professional certification.
